From 1985 to 1990, famed actress Jackee Harry played the role of Sandra Clark in 227. While the fans at home tuned in each season to the comedic sitcom, Harry said she felt downtrodden given the show’s longevity.

In an interview with Essence, the Sister, Sister co-star said she experienced a wave of sadness that clouded over her day-to-day during filming. “I used to hate myself; the fact that I was just doing a part,” she said. “I didn’t know it was going to last this long. I was just doing the part to keep the part. I never thought I’d make it this long.” Harry noted that she believed she would return to New York City to continue acting in plays.

Harry also stated that she wanted to diversify her acting resume and that she’s made peace with her time on 227. “I had down-to-earth dreams, not being a character,” she said. “I don’t want to get too deep about it because I’ve come to grips with it. I was sad for a good five years straight.”

Since then, the Emmy Award-winning actress went on to appear in shows like One on One, Tyler Perry’s The Paynes, Girl Meets World, Everybody Hates Chris and more. Harry is currently gearing up for the Lifetime debut of her film Pride and Prejudice: Atlanta.
